William, those files are in the system32 dir. I have replaced them with new copies. Still no joy. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? I would download malwarebytes, install, update and run a full system scan. I think the latest adaware is 8. Can you connect to the internet? I would be interested in the result. Also those files I did copy from the Service Pack folder and they are present in the system32 folder and the ipnat.
There are no details in the status area ie, address type, ip address, subnet mask and default gateway they are all missing I have never come across this before. The network is currently a peer to peer network with a Linksys WAGN Wireless router and this computer is cabled to a switch. There are 4 other systems on the network but all are fine. While it should be installed by default, have you checked to make sure IP is one of the protocols bound to your NIC in properties?
Also, have you tried updating to SP3 to see if that confirms installation of or installs as needed requisite files? Since SP3 is the current supported level, I was curious about including that in the troubleshooting process. I will follow up on your advice and report back. Still need to apply all these as I will get a chance over the weekend. Pretty sure it has SP3 but will put it on the list of things to check. I assigned a static ip with no change.
Thanks for your suggestions though they are appreciated. Is AFD a service? I noticed the lights on the NIC are orange and amber and I understand these should be green and amber flickering. Perhaps there is an issue with the NIC but if this is the case why is it ok in W7? This machine is windows XP Home on a small home network. The DHCP server is currently the linksys wireless router attached to a switch.
All other computers on the network are connecting ok. I have installed the netdiag tool from the XP CD. Ran it and received the following error. The error occurred was: The pipe is being closed. This sounds like it could be the NIC as you indicated, the dhcp host is the router and everyone else on the network is okay, I would change the NIC and see what happens. Start the service. Note any error messages. Do the same for these drivers as well. But in under hidden devices we have Non-Plug and Play drivers we have some issues.
They all have the yellow exclamation icon against them. This is the same message for all drivers. I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Asus website. Bit of an obscure model? Were you able to find them? He said his problem was resolved. But anyway I tries the latest drivers to no avail. Looks like I might need to run a windows repair.
